I had no idea about the Hal Periera connection, but that definately is food for thought. And Yeah, I completely see what you mean with the "Mockery of Sets". Whatever the case, it's a hard call as I want to like the movie for the sheer fact that it's Franco, and at the same time I can't really get into the minimalistic approach. I have to go with the "I'll make movies the way I want till I keel over!" approach because that still leaves Jess in a positive light.

I wonder what happened to that "Help Finance the Next Vampire Project!" page that used to be over att P-P. Does anyone else recall that?

THanks

J.CiNEZiLLAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06776853636620227783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35812839.post-2612292865457063282011-01-31T23:32:50.169+00:002011-01-31T23:32:50.169+00:00I have reconsidered my opinion of this. It's also a minimalist remake of SUCCUBUS/NECRONOMICON as the same story about the palace is Hell is told there and both are about a female sex performer possessed by a kind of schizophrenia. But narrative is pushed to the edges here and we are left with mainly performance and a question about representation. Hal Pereira was, of course, a Hollywood set designer. There are no sets or a mockery of sets with the lights and production material on display. Yes, in a way he seems to be saying "Fuck all that. This is what I can do. Take it or leave it."bobmonellhttp://www.cinemadrome.yuku.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35812839.post-58801545947724135772011-01-31T16:51:30.471+00:002011-01-31T16:51:30.471+00:00Sure. But there is a smallest glimpse of narrative and story in there as I point out, and perhaps it is merely Franco's way of saying fuck you I'll always be a rebel...

And you are completely right about Gulda's score. It does do the trick! Lars Jacobssonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04391509973612529806noreply@blogger.com
